Formosa Red is a wonderful introduction to Tung Ting oolong tea. It is made from tender tea leaves hand-plucked in Phoenix Valley of Lugu township. The current style of making Tung Ting has recently evolved to lower oxidation, while still focusing on the post-production roasting process. Formosa Red is roasted in electric oven very slowly, a process that extends over several weeks, to ensure the exact level of roasting is achieved.
Formosa Red is made by Mr. Lin, a master roaster who frequently excels at the local Lugu oolong tea competitions. Mr. Lin focuses on roasting, and purchases tea leaves from his uncle growing in Phoenex Valley.
Unlike the strong character presented by a traditional TungTing oolong, Formosa Red is easy to drink. Its taste is complex and mellow, and it releases a soft floral/fruity fragrance. The color of the brewed tea is amber with a reddish hue. Tung Ting oolong's signature taste is present without being overpowering.
