HIGH MOUNTAIN WULONG Happiness Tea is a blend of about 50-50 tea leaves and tea stalks from ShanLinXi region. It is abundant in the amino acid L-theanine and low in caffeine.
L-theanine, amongst its numerous benefits, helps your body relax and feel comfortable, thus promoting a sense of happiness. Studies have shown tea stalks are abundant in L-theanine - in fact, more than 5 time the amount contained in leaves!
Furthermore tea stalks contain only 10~50% the amount of caffeine in tea leaves. Therefore a blend with 50% tea stalks can be considered high in theanine and low in caffeine. (See blog post for detailed discussion.)
Though there are differences, this tea can be considered a Taiwanese version of the Japanese kukicha, or twig tea. Like kukicha, Happiness Tea has a mild nutty taste. It also tastes sweet with a savory umami due to abundant theanine. It releases caramel aroma from a mild roast, and does not become bitter or astringent with over-steeping. This tea leaves a soft sweet lingering in your throat.
Relax and enjoy the comforting flavor of this mild gentle tea ...
